But for Enthralled, I picked a half naked guy mirroring what I see a lot of Romance Publishers doing. And the results are in...
Half naked guy by a landslide. With less marketing, 33% more copies of Enthralled were downloaded on it's promo day than Dragoste Academy. Sure it could have been other factors, like the synopsis, the day of the week, inertia from the Dragoste Promo the day before or people's undying love of vampires. But personally I think it's the pecs.
Being new to the whole self-publishing thing, I've been experimenting like a mad scientist. One of the things I tested was covers. For Dragoste Academy I chose a nice simple designed that looked more fantasy than gay romance.
Books like 50 Shades and Twilight have incredibly simple covers (I mean the Twilight covers before they became movies). I wondered if part of their success wasn't because people didn't look like they were reading something naughty from the cover. So I tested it out and picked an innocent cover for Dragoste Academy.
The love story is the most powerful story ever told. What's more fascinating than how people fall in love?
I love to explore the infinite ways the love story can be told. From the most gentle innocent, to the most evil villain, there is a perfect match for them all, and I will find them.
Long Live Happily Ever Afters!
