A rant from one of my Dragoste characters. Star of book 3 in the Dragoste series, coming in late May.
Since I was old enough to understand, I’ve always been taught that reality is what we make it. For an Illusionist, that’s doubly so. No one really likes my kind. They think we are liars, tricksters, but that’s not true. We are the only truthsayers left. We hold the darkest, most scarring truth. Nothing is real.
For a moment, I forgot that. I thought what Lucas and I had was real. But while he is off with his new love, I stand before a disciplinary committee trying to explain my actions. I was attacked, nearly torn to pieces and yet here I am with words like “stalking” and “attempted murder” being thrown in my direction while the real perpetrators go blameless.
Like father says, those that have power set the reality of those that don’t. Lucas made me weak. Then he betrayed me. I will never allow myself to be powerless again.
Why is he staring at me with that stupid smirk on his face? Nicolai, the Dean of Arcane Magic. He pulled me into his office yesterday to give me a lecture quite similar to the one I’m enduring again today. I must have done something to piss him off because one minute he’s talking and the next I’m slammed against a book case with his fangs in my neck.
I may have had a...reaction, but it meant nothing. I am the son of an ancient and powerful bloodline, he had no right.
At the moment my situation is precarious. One word from Nicolai and I’ll be expelled. But sooner or later this will all be forgotten, and when it does, Professor Fangs will be taught where not to put his mouth. I will bring him to his knees and he’ll beg my forgiveness. But I will show him none. This I vow.
